PowerGolfBalls.com Rating System
In order to accurately differentiate between the many different power golf balls available, it is necessary to apply a rating system to different areas in which the golf ball performs. In this way, we arrive at an overall score for each power golf ball reviewed, to provide a “birds eye view” of overall golf ball quality. This will also ensure that we will have a broad range of scores for each power golf ball, with the ultimate intention to provide you with our own PowerGolfBalls.com Leaderboard – giving you a single point of reference for all of the power golf balls available on the market.
There are four areas in which PowerGolfBalls.com will be reviewing each golf ball – power, spin, feel, and price. Outlined below is a description of each of the categories.
Power
The most important category for those of us who love sheer, unadulterated power and distance off the tee! The power golf ball should give extra yardage, primarily off the tee, but also from your mid and long irons.
Spin
This category relates to the spin generated on the ball with approach shots into the green. Everyone loves to ping a 6 iron into the heart of the green and watch as the ball takes one bounce and stops dead – the spin rating will determine how likely this is to happen.
Feel
This relates to the feel of the power golf ball, mainly on the putting surface. It’s not a nice experience when you putt a certain type of golf ball which feels like you’re putting a jagged rock – hopefully the reviews covered here will help you to avoid this. You want a golf ball which provides good feedback on each putt, and feels like it is responding to your putter head.
Price
Some will say this could be classed as the most important factor when choosing a golf ball, and who could blame them? At the end of the day, you are after a power golf ball which isn’t too heavy on your wallet – luckily there is a wide spectrum of price ranges out there for similar quality golf balls.
Each of the above criteria are marked out of 10 – with 40 “points” up for grabs for each golf ball reviewed. Take a look at my golf ball comparison post, listing all the different types of golf balls I have rated so far. The closer each ball gets to this maxumum score, the more assured you can be that you are looking at a truly first-class power golf ball.
